This story first broke around July 13, 2026.
Google has been quietly updating business listings using information gathered through automated calls and texts to the business’s own phone number. A new tool finally lets owners see and reject it.
What to Check
1. Log into your Google Business Profile and look for the new “Collected Info” tab.
2. Review anything listed there against what you actually know to be accurate.
3. Reject anything incorrect before it becomes part of your public listing.
Where This Information Was Coming From
Google has been using automated outreach, calls and texts sent to a business’s listed phone number, to gather information used to update listings. Business owners had no visibility into this process or a way to correct inaccurate additions before they went live. The new Collected Info tab is the first tool that shows what Google has gathered this way and lets an owner review it before it affects the public listing.
Inaccurate listing information can mislead customers before an owner even knows it’s there. Keeping a Google Business Profile accurate is worth treating as regular upkeep, not a one-time setup task.
